Usage of Generative AI

For all course or thesis work, we require submission of a mandatory genAI usage declaration (even if no LLM was used). A template can be found here.

Generally, the KIT guidelines for genAI usage apply as well as the course-specific AI guidelines outlined by us. In particular, the student takes full responsibility for any submitted content.

We want to emphasise positive use cases for genAI, such as:

  • literature research
  • grammar and style improvements
  • visualization (e.g. creation of TikZ pictures)
  • supplements for studying (e.g. pop-quizzes, flashcards, etc.)

In exceptional cases, we might ask for a protocol of AI interaction, or invite the student to an additional interview after submission of their coursework/thesis to determine the actual usage of genAI. Serious deviations from the declaration of genAI usage, such as missing usages or false declarations of used models, may result in a failing grade.
